Last week we worked on a community service project for the seniors at the local senior center called The Villa. Nearly the whole campus participated in making Christmas decorations for The Villa. We took recycled paper back books and folded each page to make a Christmas tree. Afterwards we spray painted the Christmas trees and decorated them with a variety of knick knacks. We have folded over fifty trees to decorate the senior's rooms and we hope to brighten the holiday season for all of them.

Charity Golf Event

The golf tournament with Sean was a blast . The crew consisting of me Sean and Andy, destroyed, scoring the cource one under par. The combination of Sean's and my drives with Andy's putting was a great match. Every player on our team brought at least one skill that the whole team could profit from. The great time we had funded the Radiation Vacation Van . All of the proceeds of the tournament went to helping transport people with cancer to Salt Lake to get their treatment. This hit home with the Roosevelt community because a teacher here was just diagnosed with breast cancer. Overall, the fun golfing and the great food was a blast . This was great activity that I hope I will be able to go on in the future.

Cedar Ridge Academy Students Volunteer at the Mini Bear Dance

Cedar Ridge Academy students traveled to Fort Duchesne to volunteer to help with the Ute Tribe's Mini Bear Dance. There was a total of twelve students and two staff that volunteered, none of who have ever been to a bear dance, so the curiosity was practically overwhelming. Upon our arrival, the dance grounds seemed hectic and very unorganized. We had no clue of what exactly we could do to help out because the local high school was also there directing all the little kids to their designated areas. Eventually as the festivities began, we were asked to hand out water to dancers and audience members, for it was getting hotter and hotter. After we finished passing out water, the announcer asked for all the "little bears" which meant all the little kids attending to come out to the center and participate in the traditional dance. After watching the dancers for awhile we were asked to serve lunch to almost 500 people. Around 11:30 we walked over to where the food was set up and got ready for people to start coming over. What started out as a slow start suddenly turned into a hectic fast paced activity. We were all serving food for half an hour straight before we got to eat, but when we did get to eat, it was worth the wait and a perfect way to end our activity. Overall the activity was nothing like we expected, but a great success nonetheless. I enjoyed participating in one of the Ute Indians traditional dances and want to thank the Headstart program for inviting us to the event.

Students Help with Preschool Science Fair

Students from Cedar Ridge Academy helped preschoolers from Head Start enjoy a science fair at Uintah River High School. Lauren organized the activity as part of a leadership requirement for our school's Civic Service and Leadership elective.

Cedar Ridge Academy STAR Reading Thanks

Our students have finished helping to tutor students at Roosevelt Middle School in reading. Seven students have gone every Thursday for the past six months to work with fourth through sixth grade students behind in reading proficiency.

Tomorrow, we will travel to Vernal with ten students to help with a science fair. Stay posted!

Cedar Ridge co-ed High Way clean up

On Saturday March 26, 2011 volunteers from Cedar Ridge will take on a community service project focused on cleaning up the neighborhood. We invite our neighbors who live on 4000 West to participate in cleaning up the garbage lying around the road. Winter has ended and the snow is melting away, so the garbage that has been hidden from sight all winter long is beginning to reveal itself. All of us here at Cedar Ridge enjoy our scenic surroundings and wish to keep them clean throughout the seasons. Students who participate will also complete one out of ten required activities for the Civic Service and Leadership course which is required for graduation. This will also be a great opportunity for students to interact with each other while uniting for a good cause. Building relationships while giving back to the community and having fun at the same time, what can be better? IT’S SPRING!

Shed Clean Up

Sunday morning all the high level girls and boys came together to clean up the messiest shed I have ever seen. Nobody was excited going into it and it probably didn't help that we were all exhausted from the night before. Once we started going there was a lot of laughing and although we only cleaned a fraction of the mess we walked out of there feeling accomplished knowing that all the clothes, shoes, belts, and books we gathered are going to be donated to people less fortunate than us.

Midget Wrestling

Saturday January 15 was a night to remember for the high level girls and boys, we started out the night with dinner at Canton City followed by attending a Midget Wrestling Match. Among the contestants were Lil Nasty Boy, Lil Rampage, and Skinny Timmy. Throughout the night there was a lot of screaming,cheering and the occasional booing. Halfway through the show there was a break when we realized that there was no further point in staying because the wrestling was becoming extremely redundant. Just before leaving we all decided to get our muscles signed. We then proceeded to go to McDonald's and get ice cream where we socialized among our peers. This activity is one that the high levels will never forget.

Art Show

The highlevel boys and girls went to Roots Cafe on Friday, January 7. The girls drove over with Kimberly and the boys with Sean. When we got there, we all got hot chocolate or a smoothie. We all went to the activity because Nisty and Jim were having an art show. Nisty had about four pictures up and Jim about 8 or 9. Nisty had already sold one picture when we got there and Jim had not sold any yet; however, he had gotten two commissions from people . Things were looking on the bright side for both Nisty and Jim. The high levels had fun going to show their support for Nisty and Jim.
